Landscape Proposals

There is currently no public realm or amenity space at the site. The ‘homezone’, private gardens, communal gardens and balconies respond to the aspirations of the UDP. The communal gardens will provide a significant amenity space for residents. The design and mix of the gardens, providing both hard and soft surface paving, trees and benches, will ensure that the areas are well used throughout the day.

Play

A key element of the landscape infrastructure is the provision of play near housing developments. Informal play areas will be incorporated on site. These will contain features such as bespoke seating elements that enable children to identify the space as their own domain.

Formal play areas, equipped with area for games and play will also be provided on site within the courtyard and urban square areas (refer key plan below). It is envisaged that contribution will also be made to improving play facilities and areas that already exist in the locality of the site and are identified for improvement by the LBWF offering improved access to those within walking distance e.g. at Stoneydown Park and Garden or Coppermill Park.

The Urban Square/Homezone

The Urban Square is a shared pedestrian and vehicular zone that consists of hard and soft amenity space and play elements. High quality materials will help identify the square as a central place for meeting and gathering, for public events, markets and performances.

The Urban Square will incorporate a shared surface with high quality paving. Vehicles will run down in an adopted carriageway and their speed controlled through home zone style treatment using planting, pavement pattern and varying carriageway widths.

Formal tree planting, short mown lawn, feature paving, edging to lawn and bespoke seating and play elements shall subdivide the space, provide a buffer to surrounding roads and direct pedestrian movement.
