Design Workshops
A
workshop was held on the 10th March 2006 with community representatives
from the local area. This was followed up with a further workshop
for local residents on the 12th and 13th May 2006
Invitations were
issued to over 2,500 local residents surrounding the site, who were
then asked to confirm attendance by phone or email.
The response rate
was good, with 124 confirmed responses.
The workshops
ran over two sessions, the morning session was based on the same format
used in the earlier workshops, with five separate groups discussing
different themes.
Participants were
asked to select two themes to discuss upon registration.
The themes where:
- Transportation,
Movement & Infrastructure
- Open Space and Ecology
- Urban Design
- Community Facilities
- Integration with the Community
The afternoon
session gave paticipants the opportunity to design the kind of scheme
they would like to see. Groups were given a plan of the site and a
series of cards which represented different densities, pens, pencils
and markers. They were then given a design brief which included the
existing planning constraints such as access points and features such
as hedgerows, and asked to design the site that they would want to
see.
