Conservation and Character

Streatley Village

The historic core of Streatley village is its High Street, with St. Mary’s church offset north of the Morell Rooms. Modern buildings have spread along the main roads as ribbon development, with the majority being 20th Century.

Conservation Area

The boundary of the Streatley Conservation Area includes 4 main character areas – the River, Church meadows, the High Street and Wallingford Road. The outside boundaries of the Conservation Area vary greatly from open fields, thick woodland, the river and busy roads. Aspects and prospects are sometimes distant and broad, yet elsewhere tightly enclosed.

Listed Buildings And Architectural Character

The scale of Streatley’s buildings varies with their styles, from the Georgian formality of Streatley House to the cottages of White Hart Yard. Architectural details are equally varied but within the vernacular. The palette of materials is restricted primarily to clay brick and tile, although white render and timber boarding are also present.
