Real
Control for Streatley
Gladedale
have noted the Parishs desire to control development as a stated
objective in the Parish Plan, and summarised in its Action Plans
section.
The planning system is not a guarantee that development will
take place in the way that local communities wish. Development plans,
strategy and policy must by their nature take a wider district and
regional view, which can lead to consent being granted for development
that a majority of local people oppose.
Consequently Gladedale have included in their proposals real
measures by which the community will be able to exercise control over
considerable areas of the land in Streatley once Gladedale have completed
their proposed scheme.
Details will be presented later in this exhibition, however
in principle Gladedale propose to offer the freehold of all land within
its ownership (that is not required for the development) to the Parish.
This gives the Parish the certainty that Gladedale will not
retain land for future development, AND importantly puts considerable
land holdings in the ownership of the Parish to guard against future
unwanted development.

The Opportunity
Through this scheme proposal Streatley is being offered true
control over the future use of land in the heart of the village, a
control that is much greater and long-term than any protection that
the planning system affords.
