The Proposed Scheme

Riverside Area

This area lies just outside the flood plain to the east of Vicarage Lane.

Development already extends along the river bank south of Gladedale’s Riverside Area land, and consequently we believe that this area can justifiably be regarded as ‘infill’ land and therefore has a good chance of gaining planning consent.

We propose 3 dwellings that will take full advantage of the riverside location and which will be designed sympathetically to the immediate environment using the most modern of building standards.

Barns Area

This area currently features a small collection of existing storage buildings and again we are firmly of the opinion that the development of this property is supportable in planning terms, being already developed.

The 2 dwellings proposed for this area takes the spirit of the existing buildings and adopt a ‘barn-style’ design flavour.

West Area (Village)

The proposal for the West Area features 7 dwellings arranged around the new access street built off the Reading Road. Extensive work has been carried out to ensure this access road is as sympathetic to its immediate surroundings as possible.

The 4 units sited north of the new road are referred to as the ‘Village Houses’. These incorporate a style and design features taken from the typical High Street dwelling. They intend to blend in with designs typically seen to the adjoining buildings along the high street.

The Village Houses will be smaller than all of the other houses proposed, being compact 2 or 3 bedroom homes aimed at those who do not want or cannot afford the larger dwellings. By being smaller these units will be available at a much lower price than the other homes. The decision to include these smaller units was prompted by comments received during the consultation exercise that new housing schemes in the area always cater for the high-value ‘executive’ market and fail to provide smaller more affordable homes for local people, first-time buyers and elderly couples seeking more manageable accommodation.

North Area

One of Streatley’s most prominent and characteristic features is the expanse of land running from the northern side of the High Street toward the Wallingford Road. It is a defining feature of the village and rarely would you see the countryside impose itself in such a way on a rural settlement.

We are promoting NO DEVELOPMENT on this site and propose to include all of the land in the package we intend to donate to the Parish.
