Appeal Date Announced
Welcome to our website on the proposals for the redevelopment of the West Kent Cold Store site, Rye Lane, Dunton Green, Sevenoaks.
An exhibition displaying the initial ideas and guidelines for the site was held in July 2005. Following this, Berkeley Homes considered the views expressed and displayed the first draft of a proposed scheme at a second exhibition in November 2005.
Following further consultation with Sevenoaks District Council and local representatives and consideration of residents' views, Berkeley Homes revised its plans for the site. A third exhibition in March 2006 provided local residents with a chance to view the scheme as submitted to Sevenoaks District Council at the beginning of May 2006.
Berkeley Homes then had further detailed discussions with Sevenoaks District Council, as a result of which further changes were made to the scheme. Sevenoaks District Council then consulted formally on the revised scheme. The planning application was then considered by the Council's Development Control Committee on 13 September 2007. After discussion, the committee decided that the application be deferred to allow Officers to produce a further report on density, elements of design, traffic and housing mix; and to draft reasons for refusal based on Members’ concerns.
Following the deferral of a decision, Berkeley Homes appealed to the Secretary of State on the grounds of the non-determination of the application.
The application was subsequently considered by the Council’s Development Control Committee on 30 October 2007, where members resolved that, had they been able to determine the application they would have refused it on a number of grounds, including the density and height of the development and the housing mix.
The date of the appeal has now been scheduled for 23 April 2008.
